Citizenship Support Program

Citizenship Support Program is funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and provides support for all eligible citizenship applicants. The project has been run since September 2008 and has assisted or is currently assisting more than 160 people of different backgrounds. Success rate in the test for different groups who have completed the course varies from 80 to 100%. To read some success stories, click here.

Information on how to become an Australian citizen

Call or visit AMRC to get advice on your pathways to citizenship. Citizenship Support Worker can advise you on whether you need to sit for the test or not, what is the procedure of applying for citizenship, what is the Citizenship test and how you can prepare.

Assistance with filling in citizenship application forms

Have you passed the test and need to lodge in your application? Are you exempt from the test and need advice on how to complete your form and book an interview? Arrange an appointment with the Citizenship Project Worker who will help you with the paperwork or will assist you with your on-line application.

Information on Citizenship Test

If you are older than 18 and younger than 60 you would normally need to pass the Citizenship Test to be able to apply for Australian Citizenship. AMRC provides information to individuals who would like to learn more about what to expect from the test, how it is conducted, what types of questions are asked, how to prepare for the test, how to make a booking and whether you are eligible for a standard or an assisted test.


Citizenship Support Classes

Citizenship Support Classes is your opportunity to learn about Australian values, land, history, politics and culture, go through the content of Becoming an Australian Citizen Handbook during interactive classes, meet people from different cultures, practice test questions and make group bookings for the test.
Citizenship Support Classes are available to all permanent residents between 18 and 60 years of age. The courses are run in simple English with a lot of visual aids. Unfortunately due to our funding agreement we cannot provide childcare.

When:
+ Weekday morning course
Six classes per course
Mondays and Tuesdays 10am – 12 noon for three weeks

+ Weekday afternoon course
Six classes per course
Monday and Tuesday 4-6 pm for three weeks

+ Weekend course:
Two intensive classes
Saturdays 10am-3pm
This course is available once every month.

Individual test coaching

Individual support and coaching is available in addition to citizenship classes. This form of assistance will suit people who have difficulties reading in English or any other language.


Citizenship Resource Kit including Becoming an Australian Citizen handbook, summary of the handbook and practice questions

At Auburn MRC you can receive a FREE copy of Becoming an Australian Citizen handbook. In addition to that, a resource kit has been developed. It contains summary of the handbook and more than 100 practice test questions. You can obtain the whole package free of charge.


Computer practice test
You can book an appointment to practice simulated citizenship test in the computer lab with the assistance of Citizenship worker.


Test group bookings and individual bookings

Citizenship Support worker can help you make a booking for the test or interview. Group bookings at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship in Parramatta are available for those who attend citizenship classes. Group bookings give you an opportunity to sit for the test within two to three weeks upon the completion of the course with your fellow students. Citizenship worker attends the group tests to provide support and encouragement to the applicants.
