Bilingual Case Worker - for migrants, refugees, humanitarian and family entrants

About the Position:
This is a part-time position (21 hours per week) and is designed to meet the settlement needs of migrants, refugees, humanitarian and family entrants from various language and cultural backgrounds. It is run by the Auburn Migrant Resource Centre and is part of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s Settlement Grants Program.

Accountable to: Executive Officer and Auburn MRC Management Committee

Reporting to: Settlement Services Co-ordinator

General Description:
• provide case work to meet the settlement needs of migrants, refugees, humanitarian and family entrants residing in Central West Sydney and work towards maximizing their independence
• establish and develop relationships with relevant service providers
• identify relevant information and other resources to help migrants, refugees humanitarian and family entrants
• work to an agreed work program
• participate in relevant meetings and raising awareness of client needs and issues
• assist with community liaison and promotion of the service as required
• work within a team environment at the AMRC
• liaise with other AMRC staff in order to provide a holistic service to clients
• provide or contribute to providing outreach services to other organisations if required
• complying with any statutory provisions concerning the duties of the role
• submitting reports to funding body in accordance with work program and funding agreement schedule and to provide reports as requested by supervisor
• co-operate with the Settlement Services Co-ordinator and Executive Officer in assessment, planning and review of work with client group
• assist Settlement Services Co-ordinator with capacity building and service planning objectives
• where required, help plan and participate in worker development programs and staff meetings
• adhere to all AMRC policies, procedures, principles and service standards
• maintain client and organisational privacy and confidentiality
• contribute to the continuous improvement of practices at AMRC
• participate in the growth and development of the team and organisation
• contribute to decision-making processes within the organisation
• promote AMRC in a positive manner at all times
• participate in staff development opportunities
• plan and develop own work plan in conjunction with Service Co-ordinator

Essential Selection Criteria:
1. minimum one year experience in community services sector providing case work to CALD communities, either as an employee or volunteer
2. demonstrated understanding of issues facing refugees, migrants and humanitarian entrants
3. understanding of, ability to engage in, and support capacity building activities
4. understanding of service planning processes and ability to identify policy issues
5. developed case management, organising, writing and verbal communication skills
6. demonstrated ability to work independently
7. ability to work within defined organisational protocols and practices and contribute to refining such protocols and practices

Desirable Selection Criteria:
• bilingual/bicultural – preferred language: Asian/SE Asian, Arabic- others also encouraged to apply
• previous experience working with other service providers

Salary: Remuneration is based on SACS Award


Conditions of Employment: The job description and worker performance will be reviewed after three months from the date of commencement. The position is subject to funding availability.
