Team Leader - African Community Settlement

About the Position:
The Auburn MRC is seeking a team leader for the new African Community settlement program. This program will ultimately aim to improve access for African entrants into mainstream services. The team leader will support the team members through casework, organising information sessions, and cultural transition activities for newly arrived African migrants. The team leader will also be responsible for establishing advisory committees, organise, support, and advocate for the community, which will ultimately assist them through the integration process. It is funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship under the Settlement Grants Program.

Auburn MRC Management Committee

Reporting to:
Executive Officer

Status:
28 – 35 hours per week

Aim of the Position:
To supervise case workers within a new team assisting clients from African communities. This leadership role will also be responsible in initiating, developing, and coordinating community capacity activities and projects for newly arrived African migrants and refugees. This role forms part of the management team and has responsibilities relating to the planning and delivery of settlement services for newly arrived African communities in the Auburn LGA.

Selection Criteria

Essential:
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate and resource a small team and manage their performance and development needs
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of community services including settlement needs of African communities
• Demonstrated ability in written, and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated experience in organising project advisory committees
• Demonstrated ability to work independently
• Ability to work within defined organisational protocols and practices and contribute to refining such protocols and practices

Desirable: Bilingual/Bicultural

Salary: Based on SACS award (level 4)

Conditions of employment: The job description and worker performance will be reviewed after three months from the date of commencement. This is a new project and the position is subject to funding continuation.
