Employment Project Officer - For humanitarian and family entrants

About the Position:
This is a full time position (35 hours per week) and will form part of the settlement services team at the AMRC. Subsequently this position will report to the settlement services coordinator who will support the project officer in delivering a program for refugees and humanitarian entrants. As well as being supported the position also requires the project officer to take initiative and work with a high level of autonomy. It is funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship under the Settlement Grants Program.
Aim of the Position:
The position requires the project officer to display adept networking and communication skills. It is a dynamic role that involves setting up a one on one mentoring program, employment training, and personalised case planning to assist clients to integrate into the broader community. The project aims to improve access for family and humanitarian entrants into the mainstream employment sector by familiarizing them with Australian work culture, help develop their professional networks, and connecting them to employment opportunities. This will inevitably allow the integration process to become less complicated and enhance the settlement process.
Position Description:
• To work with the settlement service coordinator to implement employment strategies including training & skills development programs
• To promote the project to other service providers, community and government bodies
• Organise, promote, and facilitate mentor support sessions
• Conduct induction workshops for mentees and mentors, where appropriate
• Connect mentees with appropriate mentors
• Identify work experience opportunities for humanitarian entrants
• Assess mentees for their work readiness and their training needs
• Provide clients with workplace orientation information, develop career case plans, assist with resume preparation and job application
• Make referrals as required for additional support
• Administer and evaluate the project
• Provide monthly reports for the management committee and the coordinator according to the work program
• Assist coordinator in fulfilling accountability requirements to the funding bodies
• Adhere to the policy and procedures of the Auburn MRC
• Maintain client and organisational privacy and confidentiality
• Participate in staff development opportunities
• Promote AMRC in a positive manner at all times
Essential Selection Criteria:
1. Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in the community sector required
2. Demonstrated understanding of community services, including employment barriers facing refugee and migrant communities
3. Developed written and verbal communication skills
4. Demonstrated ability to work independently with exceptional networking skills
5. Demonstrated understanding of case work and case planning
6. Ability to work within defined organisational protocols and practices
7. Awareness of EEO and OH&S principles
Desirable Selection Criteria:
• bilingual/bicultural
• previous experience working with other service providers
Salary:
$49,148 - $51,878 (pro-rata) based on experience
Conditions of employment:
Worker performance will be reviewed after three months from the date of commencement. The position is subject to funding continuation.
